Connect Facebook and Instagram

Your assistant can answer on Facebook Messenger and Instagram, with the same knowledge base and persona it uses on your widget. Facebook and Instagram share one connect flow — you log in to Facebook once and pick the Page (and its Instagram, if it has one).

In the left menu, under Channels, open Facebook & Instagram. For Telegram, see Connect Telegram.

Who does what

WhoWhat they do
YouLog in with the Facebook account that manages your Page, pick which Page (and Instagram) to connect, and answer whether the AI should start replying there.
MetaOwns the login and the Page. Any error inside the Facebook popup, or a Page it refuses to hand over, comes from Meta.
AgentechOpens the Facebook window, saves the connection once you pick a Page, and runs your assistant on it from then on.

Step by step

  1. In Facebook & Instagram, click Connect Facebook Page.
  2. A Facebook window opens. Log in with the account that manages your Page. No developer account or setup is needed on your side.
  3. If you manage one Page with no Instagram linked to it, that's it — it connects right away and you're taken back to the Channels screen.
  4. If you manage more than one Page, or your Page has a linked Instagram Business account, you land on Choose your Pages:
    • Tick every Page you want your assistant to answer on. A Page you already connected shows as Already connected and is checked but greyed out — it isn't re-sent.
    • Under a Page with a linked Instagram account, you'll see Also connect its Instagram (@username), checked by default. Untick it if you only want this Page's Messenger.
    • Click Connect (or Connect N Pages for more than one).
  5. Messenger and Instagram show up as separate rows in the table below, even though they came from one login — each has its own switches and can be disconnected on its own.

Only want Instagram, not Messenger? You can't connect a Page's Instagram without connecting the Page itself — Instagram messaging authenticates through the Page's own access token, not a separate one. You can, however, switch AI replies to messages off on the Messenger row right after connecting (see below) and leave Instagram active, which comes to the same thing day to day.

Only want Messenger, not Instagram? Yes — leave Also connect its Instagram unticked when you connect the Page, or untick it and reconnect if you already said yes.

After connecting: "Should the AI start replying to your customers?"

Every Page or Instagram account you connect for the first time starts with your assistant off — it doesn't answer direct messages or comments. Right after the connection goes through, the dashboard asks "Should the AI start replying to your customers?", showing the Page or Instagram account it's about, with Yes and No and the note "You can change this anytime." The question can't be closed or skipped; connect several Pages at once and it asks about each one in turn.

  • Yes — your assistant starts answering on that channel with the next message and comment. The row shows Active.
  • No — it stays off. Messages still arrive in your Inbox for you to answer yourself, and the row shows Paused.

You're only asked when your assistant could actually reply there — that is, while your plan is active. Otherwise the channel stays off quietly, and the question appears once you have a plan.

Reconnecting a channel you already had (for example after "Needs reconnect") keeps its setting and asks nothing. Channels connected before this question existed kept their setting too.

To change your answer later, use the switches on the channel's row (see below).

Keep Meta Business Suite automations off. If an automation in Meta Business Suite (under Inbox → Automations) answers your Messenger or Instagram messages, Meta's inbox handles those chats and the AI stays quiet in them — the messages still reach your Inbox, but the AI can't reply. See When Meta's inbox is handling a conversation.

Pausing and disconnecting

Messenger and Instagram rows each get four switches:

  • AI replies to messages — "Answers your customers in [Messenger or Instagram]." Direct messages.
  • AI replies to comments — "Answers comments under your posts and hides spam." Public comments.
  • AI reads photos and AI listens to voice notes — see Usage and plans.

Messages and comments are independent, so switching one off leaves the other running. With replies off the row reads "Replies paused: messages on that channel still arrive in your Inbox, but the AI will not answer them until you switch “AI replies to messages” back on. Nothing received while paused is answered afterwards."; with comments off, "Comments paused: new comments on that account are left alone — not answered and not hidden — until you switch “AI replies to comments” back on. Comments left while paused are not answered afterwards." Disconnect removes a row entirely; customers messaging it get no reply until you reconnect.

Moving a Page to another of your workspaces: a Page answers in one workspace at a time. In the old workspace, Disconnect the Page row and its Instagram row (they're separate), then connect the Page in the new workspace. The old conversations stay in the old workspace.

What about TikTok?

TikTok is in the Channels menu, but there's nothing to connect yet. Opening it shows: "We're building this. TikTok replies are on the way — we're waiting on TikTok's approval of our app." Click Tell us you want it and we'll let you know as soon as it's ready. This is on us, not something to fix on your end.

If something goes wrong

"No Facebook Pages found for this account. You need to manage at least one Page."

The Facebook account you logged in with doesn't manage any Facebook Page. Fix: log in with the Facebook account that actually manages your business Page, or create a Page for your business in Facebook first.

"This Page is already connected to another workspace."

That Facebook Page is still connected in a different Agentech workspace — another of yours, or someone else's. Nothing was changed on that Page. Fix: open that workspace and Disconnect the Page there, then connect it here. Or log in with the Page you actually meant to connect. If that other workspace isn't yours, email us.

"This Page's Instagram account is still connected to another workspace. Disconnect it there first."

You disconnected the Page in the other workspace, but its Instagram account is a separate row and is still connected there. Fix: in that workspace, Disconnect the Instagram row too, then connect the Page here again.

"Facebook rejected this Page. Try reconnecting it on its own."

Something about this one Page failed on Meta's side while the rest of your selection went through. Fix: go back to Connect Facebook Page and pick just that Page on its own. If it keeps failing, email us.

"This connection request has expired. Please reconnect." / "That Page wasn't part of this connection request. Please reconnect."

Too much time passed between logging in to Facebook and picking a Page, or the picker was left open from an earlier attempt. Fix: click Connect Facebook Page again and go straight through.

Facebook sent you back more than 15 minutes after you tapped Connect Facebook Page, or the same link was opened twice. Fix: go back to the Agentech dashboard and tap Connect Facebook Page again.

On a phone: "Done. Go back to the Agentech app to choose your Page."

If you installed the Agentech app on your phone, Facebook's login opens in a separate browser sheet. That sheet first asks Connect your Facebook Pages to the Agentech workspace "…"? with the owner's email — check it's your workspace, then tap Yes, connect. When it says this, close the sheet and go back to the app — the list of your Pages opens there by itself.

If you see that question for a workspace that isn't yours, tap No: someone sent you a connect link from their own workspace. Nothing is connected. Fix: if the list doesn't open within a few seconds, open Channels → Facebook & Instagram in the app.

"Please allow popups for this site to connect a Facebook Page."

Your browser blocked the Facebook window before it could open. Fix: allow pop-ups for the Agentech dashboard in your browser, then click Connect Facebook Page again.

A row says "Needs reconnect"

Meta's access to that Page or Instagram account stopped working — usually because the connection was removed on Facebook's side, or the access token expired. Your assistant stops replying on that row until it's reconnected. Fix: for Messenger, click Reconnect on that row. For Instagram, reconnect the linked Facebook Page above — Instagram shares the Page's connection and has no separate reconnect button of its own.

I connected a Page and the assistant doesn't reply — the row says "Paused"

New connections start with the AI off, and you answered No to "Should the AI start replying to your customers?" — or you weren't asked because your plan isn't active. Fix: switch AI replies to messages back on (and AI replies to comments for comments) on that row. If you were never asked and there's no plan, request access from Support → Contact us first.

"Your assistant stopped replying on Facebook: …" / a row says "Not replying — plan ended"

The strip at the top of the dashboard reads "Your assistant stopped replying on [Facebook or Instagram]: [reason]" — "your plan has ended", "you've used this month's messages", "you've reached today's message limit" or "your workspace has no package that includes replies here" — and the row shows "Not replying — plan ended", "Not replying — messages used up", "Not replying — daily limit reached" or "Not replying — no package". The channel is still connected; your assistant has no messages left to answer with, so it stays silent. Customers are sent nothing about it, and their messages still arrive in your Inbox. Fix: press Request access or Contact us on the strip (both open Support → Contact us), or email us. Replies start again with the next message once you have messages available. Details in Usage and plans.

When to email us

Email admin@agentech.tech, or use Support → Contact us in the dashboard, when:

  • A Page is connected to a workspace that isn't yours.
  • A Page keeps failing with "Facebook rejected this Page" even on its own.
  • A row keeps going back to "Needs reconnect" after you reconnect it.

Tell us your workspace name, which channel (Messenger or Instagram), the Page name, and the exact message you saw. A screenshot helps. We reply by email.
